Following the recent increase in the number of cases in Morocco, one could only assume that a full lockdown is possible once again. In fact, the second wave has hit the country harder than the first one. With more than 4000 cases per day, the Moroccan government extended the state of emergency until December 10th. In this sense, one could only expect a series of new and stricter health measures in the upcoming nights (as usual).
At the level of the university, 28 out of the 476 students who left campus for the long weekend break have tested positive for the coronavirus. The latter showcases the vital role of the sanitary measures that AUI undertook. In light of these events, the latest email by the Dean of Student Affairs, Abdessamad Fatmi, stated that the administration “will be carrying out regular health and safety rounds across campus and will be issuing direct fines for non-compliance cases”. However, he did not specify whether there will be any new regulations that could affect campus life drastically.
What to expect?
Well, it has become clear that stricter health regulations will be implemented, taking into account the evolution of the epidemic situation in Morocco. Rumour has it that a lockdown is possible and much stricter laws are on the way. Therefore, will the university be ready to undergo the spring scenario once again? Considering the number of students on campus, how different will it be this time? Are we going to be allowed to leave campus? Are we getting confined in our rooms? In case of infections, will the university be able to handle the epidemic situation? Can we handle a second lockdown? One is only left to wonder how this situation will evolve.
