AUI digital repository: Preserving AUI’s legacy

Spring 2021 knew the starting of the “AUI Digital Repository” project led by Pr. Paul Love and several other faculty members and librarians. The aim of this digital repository is to create an open-source platform where scholarly and digital content can be preserved and collected. Such platforms are present in several universities in the world such as the American University in Armenia and the American University of Cairo for similar purposes. Digital repositories will represent a home for student and institutional records. It is a way to ensure freedom to access information and documents related to AUI. In addition to preserving an entity’s legacy.

By the end of this semester, the digital repository will contain SAO publications and AUI newspaper collection since its creation in 1995. The project will then move to its second phase which is to include in its digital platform other documents such as AUI Catalogues since 1994, photographs of university life and events, faculty publications, posters and audio-visual materials.

The materials will be accessible by all AUI students, staff, and faculty. Such platforms will enable us to rediscover our university since its founding and remind us of our college years even years after graduation.
