Following the evolution of the recent pandemic situation in Morocco and the numerous complaints made by AUIers about the lack of communication from the university about the eventualities of next semester, Al Akhawayn Student Government Association released a statement on the Facebook group ‘Student Community at AUI’ on August 23rd at 11:05 pm explaining the teaching methods and sanitary measures adopted for the Fall 2020 semester.
The statement claims the following:
- The university will house 1200-1300 students on-campus, 800-900 of which will be “Newcomers”, the rest are “Freshmen”, Resident Assistants, Mentors, senior graduating students, and students with special circumstances.
- This 50% capacity will also be reflected in terms of restaurants and other campus services, in addition to face-to-face classroom sizes.
- Incoming students will be tested and asked to remain on-campus with limited interaction for the 48 hours it takes to process the test. The COVID-19 protocol will include a combination of PCR tests, serologic antibodies tests, and other methods. Aside from social distancing and mask-wearing, other regulations (such as limited intercity travel, restricted off-campus mobility, stricter curfew. etc.) may be imposed depending on the situation.
- The payment deadline has been postponed to September 7th, by which time students will have a better idea of their housing situation and the learning modes and syllabi of their courses.
- The initial book fee will be reduced by 1000 DHS; e-books are expected to be significantly cheaper; and per usual, book readjustments will be issued based on the student’s spending.
And concerning the registration fees, the university will maintain them for the sole reason that they cover fees of infrastructure and salaries of workers. Additionally, it covers the expenses of the economic repercussions and consequences of the pandemic.
