Starting last Spring, AUI added several new undergraduate and graduate programs. As many students applied to the new graduate programs, they found themselves being canceled on at the last minute. The latter resulted in confusion and ambiguity among future graduate students who were told to restructure their plans or choose among old programs.
According to our sources, the two programs canceled were from the School of Science and Engineering. The problem lies in the timing of such decision-making. The graduate students were to start on October 5th and the aforementioned programs were canceled a few days before.
What needs to be done?
Such decisions might cause major disruptions. Students will either have to re-adapt their academic plans or request for clarification regarding the decision-making. In this case, the concerned parties will have to resort to the Student Government Association (SGA) to act as an intermediary between both the administration and the students. One might not have the full picture; therefore, it is best for AUI to communicate with full transparency with its students and offer alternatives that would benefit everyone academically.
