The Office of International Programs announced this Friday that no application process will be opened this semester for students who are interested in study abroad opportunities (Bilateral/ISEP) for Spring 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the applications process that usually takes place at the beginning of each semester.
The OIP’s outbound student advisor shared more details about the situation, citing that students who were supposed to go on exchange last semester had to defer their applications due to the pandemic. These students will be considered as applicants this semester, leaving no additional spots for potential new applicants. Another reason that was communicated to students was the inability of AUI to host international students this semester, making it even more difficult to secure additional spots for next semester.
A complicated situation that may disrupt students’ degree plans
Needless to say that the pandemic affected all aspects of our lives, this situation is no different. Many juniors and sophomores will have to re-adjust their degree plans in order to accommodate for this unexpected disruption. The OIP mentioned that more information about short study abroad programs will be announced later (intersessions, intensive courses, etc.).
