Preparing for the orientation week, a tradition kept regardless of the pandemic

Faithful to its tradition, Al Akhawayn University is maintaining the orientation week for Fall 2020 students. The Center for learning excellence, First-Year Experience, and the Student activities office are collaborating for the success of this week’s university entrance regardless of this year’s pandemic challenges. Faculty, staff, mentors, and ambassadors all mobilized to organize these events and ensure a successful student’s welcoming.

The organization is strict as all students on campus must abide by the rules imposed by the authorities of each respective city and by the rules of the Al Akhawayn COVID task force. A PCR test had to be presented at AUI’s main gate in addition to respecting the wearing of masks in every public space on campus and keeping the social distancing. These measures are to be respected during the different events that will happen on campus.

Tasks were divided among several groups of the CLE team. Some were responsible for designing the activities and games, others for ensuring the president’s speech, facilitating the flow of parents in auditoriums. Other mentors will be positioned in registration booths and mentors’ info desk to guide parents on organizational procedures to follow while on campus. The FYE team is to ensure that all the logistical needs are met.

Rehearsals and simulations were also conducted in order to make the event successful and safe for parents and AUIers on campus. Program sheets and campus information are expected to be given as a package to parents.

The university is making it its priority to emphasize on the importance of campus life to students. Therefore, newcomers and continuing students should abide by the safety measures in order to go through a smooth and safe semester. Interactions off-campus are limited and should be conducted cautiously while keeping in mind the well-being of the AUI community.

Taking into account all the exceptional measures that our country and university are abiding by, it is important for us to be responsible students and human beings. Our safety and the safety of our beloved ones are in our hands. It is important also to note that Ifrane’s community is a very small and vulnerable one, therefore, helping it overcome this pandemic through responsible behaviors is a duty that every AUIer should fulfill.
